This particular tweet was really chilling

A few people have pointed it out, but our ROE regarding who we could point weapons at in Afghanistan was more restrictive than cops in MO.

The reason it's allowed to happen is that all the white gun nuts who hate Government dislike non-whites even more. So there's not much of a stir going on.

We kind of don't know what to do about our Police in general because they can kill us if they feel like it and get paid vacation.

The scariest thing is the lack of training these police have. And some tweets have been pointing out they've got more body armour than troops did during the invasion of Iraq.

To deal with civilians...

EDIT: Oh, I found a whole page of army people tweeting about it.

It really helps to put it in perspective.
This one stood out too

People in 2004-2006 struggled to understand why Iraqis would want to fight the US military occupation. Does it make sense now?

Plus we don't even have to deal with the hired gun Mercs peeling out and running over kids.

"Dick measuring contest" dynamics. No one wants to step in and say, "Stop being idiots, Police! We outrank you."

Well they did pull the dick measurers, St Louis PD, off of security and put State Troopers on instead. And Ron Johnson, the guy in charge of the operation now, seems like he's in the right direction. He seems to see that having such heavily armed police deathsquads on patrol only exacerbates the situation. Importantly, he's black and he comes from the area so that alone will hopefully put some more trust in the police than another old, white male lording over them there. He's pushing for more peaceful protests and led the walk with some of the protesters.

I mean I know, in riots there are some shitheads that want nothing more than to cause destruction and loot. But on the other hand, it doesn't need to be cracked down on with assault rifles and tear gas.
And reporters shouldn't be tear gassed while reporting.

It's a scary time to be an american I think.

Yeah, the major problem (IMHO) is Policework needs to be reactionary in many cases. This wasn't a good time to wheel our preventative measures, threatening folks "in case they might want to do something bad".

Just chill out and mobilize if shit goes down, let people stand in the street with signs.

When there have been protests here (recently, anyway) there are always regular old uniformed officers walking around keeping an eye on everything and making sure everyone is staying safe and staying peaceful.
I participated in some sign waving about minimum wage increases recently and the cops were just being watchful, just like they do at any other public event.
That's the sort of deterrance/prevention that's needed, instead of stormtroopers.
