Humans need barricades to survive, but barricades come with several drawbacks. Without a barricade, you are guaranteed to die to a vampire relatively quickly. With a barricade, you draw undead to your location.

The main flaw of barricades is that they do not guarantee safety (not that I'm saying they should). Barricades only stall an inevitable death, and prove to be absolutely useless against two or more undead. A single undead player has no trouble destroying a barricade and killing at least one person inside.

Another flaw of barricades is that they are difficult to build and maintain. If the lights are on, it takes a minimum of 20 AP to build a barricade. Factoring in failures pulls up at least 25-30 AP spent to build a maximum barricade. If the lights are off, this cost almost doubles to 40-50 AP. This does not include AP spent on potential building repairs.

A counter-point often brought up against this is that humans are meant to work together. That brings up another point: if humans have to work together to survive, undead should have to work together to hunt them.

TL;DR: Barricades are ineffective. They either need to be made stronger or easier to build.

I can think of two ways (with the help of others) to remedy this.

1. Keep the system the same, but double barricade hit points. Make undead work together.
2. Introduce a skill that makes barricades twice as easy to build.

i voted for option 1 but i think both remedies should be put into effect at least somewhat. making the cade easier to build means you can put it up in less ap, yeah, but its still just as easy to take down right? so it doesn't completely solve the issue. and just upping the hp for a cade doesn't fix that you have to dump all your ap into it to get it where you want it. so add both. a skill that makes the player more efficient at building barricades, and also increase the hp of cades by a couple points or so. a couple zombies working together should still be able to tear down a full barricade i think. but a couple humans working together should be able to build up a barricade and still have ap left over to defend against the undead.

if humans get a skill to make barricades easier to put up zombies should have it easier to wreck a building.
What's the justification for that?

Removed long post for the sake of others.

Why would you even care about how hard 'cades are to take down?  You just make alts and set buildings on fire anyways.

The way it is now, unless humans are constantly make sure barricades are up, it's easy enough for a Zed/Vampire to take down.  While doubling the HP could be seen way to much, they atleast should get a boost to their health by something.

--why is death supposed to be prevented more.  this is a post apocalypic game.  everyone dies

I don't mean to intrude on this whole thing but THAT'S THE GOAL. THE WHOLE GOAL IF YOU'RE HUMAN(and I guess want to stay that way) IS TO NOT DIE. Yeah, deaths are definitely not permanent and everyone dies at some point, but where's the fun in going around recklessly not caring either way? That's the whole point is to avoid death if/where you can.

??? Maybe I'm missing something.

I usually wait until it's been a few pages of discussion or there's at least 20 votes.

Also agreeing with Frankie. Especially his suggestion as to making the barricade building a multiple leveled skill.

I hate to say this in a public forum, but I also agree with Frankie. I will now jump out of a building to redeem myself.  ;D
